The Chinese central government has placed an age limit of 55years on its senior cadres wanting to put themselves forward for presidential and ministerial office. This is because after a thorough study of 50 years of octogenarian rulers, the nation came to a firm conclusion that it needed a younger generation of leaders who have the youthful brain power, fresh creative ideas, dynamic enthusiasm to change the status quo, and high energy levels as a powerful force to create an economic revolution in an ever- changing, dynamic, increasingly- complex, highly- competitive global- spirited economy. The reality of life is that as people grow older, their strengths, ideas, perspectives, world view, knowledge and even some experiences are far out- classed by the freshness, speed and fluidity of the 21st century which requires highly- energised time- conscious input. Market driven Agric – who wants what? – how is it wanted? – when is it wanted ? – at what price is it wanted? Ghana needs to develop the entire value chain, work to become self sufficient in rice and maize production, establish youth farm camps, treat food production as a real security issue, create space for strategic thinking by engaging people to constitute a serious research think- tank, ensure that the top two executives of key strategic institutions like banks are qualified natives, and negotiate with USA to take some of our youth for a 2 year bonded paid farm work program, after which they return to engage in agricultural activity here. Like China did, we should facilitate easy entry of Ghanaians in the Diaspora to bring in capital to invest locally so foreign investors can partner them when they come here. When the capital of the foreign banks in Ghana is taken away, all the local banks have a combined capital of only $300 million. Capitalization of local banks is a matter of urgency to support local businesses. In Ghana, economic activity is impacted more by practice than policy. Government must engage more with the private sector to ensure a convergence between practice and policy. Finally, political parties should bear in mind when making choices of candidates for public office that, though seniority may be important, VISION, IMAGINATION & PERFORMANCE are more important. The reality of life is that as people grow older, their strengths, ideas, perspectives, world view, knowledge and even some experiences are far out- classed by the freshness, speed and fluidity of the 21st century which requires highly- energised time- conscious input. These new generation of leaders now in charge of the world’s most advanced and successful nations, are knowledgeable, competent, deep strategic thinkers and planners, highly analytical, performers, achievers, committed to solving the most difficult and complex problems, ambitious, creative, capable, self-motivated, inspirational and transformational. Ghana should do careful research fish out these new generation leaders who will lead us to catch up with the nations ahead of us, to compete with them and possibly over take them. Market driven Agric – who wants what? – how is it wanted? – when is it wanted ? – at what price is it wanted? Ghana needs to develop the entire value chain, work to become self sufficient in rice and maize production, establish youth farm camps, treat food production as a real security issue, create space for strategic thinking by engaging people to constitute a serious research think- tank, ensure that the top two executives of key strategic institutions like banks are qualified natives, and negotiate with USA to take some of our youth for a 2 year bonded paid farm work program, after which they return to engage in agricultural activity here. Like China did, we should facilitate easy entry of Ghanaians in the Diaspora to bring in capital to invest locally so foreign investors can partner them when they come here. When the capital of the foreign banks in Ghana is taken away, all the local banks have a combined capital of only $300 million. Capitalization of local banks is a matter of urgency to support local businesses. In Ghana, economic activity is impacted more by practice than policy. Government must engage more with the private sector to ensure a convergence between practice and policy. Finally, political parties should bear in mind when making choices of candidates for public office that, though seniority may be important, VISION, IMAGINATION & PERFORMANCE are more important. It is very strong political leadership, resolved political will, a state- led private sector economic model with a clear choice in direction that favours natural-based economic development and backed by an employment strategy that targets the vulnerable and less educated, a strategic maximization of the benefits of our geo-political circumstance is the name of the game. We must move away from farm-driven to market- driven agriculture, produce the huge quantity of chickens we consume per day locally, ensure that 10% of the air- time of the telecommunication companies be traded by Ghanaians, use the fish- bone technique to unbundle the oil services sector and put a spot eye on certain major foreign business concerns in Ghana who fix their own forex rates that all Ghanaians comply with. We must also use the rich youth brain power, massive strength and fresh, creative, ideas as the main driving force for an economic revolution. Identify an area of challenge impeding improved living standards, general progress, meaningful development & prosperity in your community & in the nation at large 2. Exhaustively analyze the challenge, trace it to it's root, conduct thorough research & engage in crack-thinking to prescribe an accurate solution to deal with the challenge 3. Come up with a solution plan & engineer an effective implementation strategy 4. Invest a little time getting more people to buy into your solution through text messages, internet, phone calls, media new & existing relationships, group meetings and preach the gospel of solution & meaningful change. Our environment & minds should be solution & performance dominated. We are putting together a non-partisan nation-building forum for revolutionary 21st century brain-storming, thorough packaging & implementation of our findings. Meaningful Change for Ghana's sustainable future will depend on how much politics & policy direction change. Healthy Inter-party relationships in politics are key to Ghana's long term democratic and economic success. We must strategically deepen cross-party relationships through dialogue, consensus building, expanding cooperation, building strategic mutual trust and making room for early reconciliation, bearing in mind the fact that we have some catching up with the advanced world to do and face tough competition ahead. In the supreme national interest, we must develop a better understanding of politics and apply new thinking, innovation, and creativity to it. For as a nation in competition with the world for a decent market-share of a great global promise, we must swim together in orderly diversity lest we sink together in chaotic disaster. The past must be relieved, what we have with us preserved, and our synergized energies previously invested in over-zealous political rivalry & excessive partisanship, redirected into the many surmountable challenges that confront us, with an unyielding determination to position them behind us. Political power should be a tool to promote a great, widely accepted vision. Policy should be carved out of thorough research, exhaustive analysis, deep strategic thinking & pragmatism. The future of the world belongs to those who have an ambitious implementable vision, a winner's mindset & worldview, relevant 21st century knowledge, the right attitude, the odacity to defy all odds, winning strategies, and who are hungry for global success, properly positioned, and swiftly seize opportunity.
